The following information is specific to the Virginia State Corporation Commission.

Corporations, limited partnerships and limited liability companies are registered with the Virginia State Corporation Commission.  General partnerships and other assumed names are registered in the Circuit Court for the city or county where their official address is located.

If a corporation wishes to use a fictitious name, they must first register with the Circuit Court for the city or county where their official address is located, then file a certified copy of that document with the State Corporation Commission.
